A Godly Husband.
One of my very close friends returned to Australia recently. Whilst I have always had a deep amount of love and respect for the guy, recent events have forced me to think about the real possibility of getting a poster of him for my wall. There are probably a bunch of you who will read this and not know who I am talking about, and some of you will know right away. I am electing to keep his name out of it, because I want GOD to reward his faithfulness! I also think his head is plenty big enough….I love you man!
Anyway as things transpired he had a job over here which many of us would find envious. Being a rock star seems like a fun endeavor, until you actually hang out with the guys and realize the hard slog they have on their hands. For the 30 minutes of fame on stage, there is probably about 16 hours of hard work. It is a job where you truly have to suffer for the art. I have really enjoyed tracking the success of this group, and get excited every time they get played on air.
With that said my buddy found himself at a crossroads. The band was ready for the next steps, but there was some obvious strain on his marriage. To be a traveling musician you have to be all in, family MUST be sold out. My buddy clearly aware that his marriage is ministry number one had a difficult decision to make. Blessed with an amazing wife who was truly ready to submit and follow her husband, even if it means another difficult year, he had a decision to make.
For many of us we assume that a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity only knocks once. That may be true, but that limits the true generosity of God. God is aware of the faithful, notices the sacrifice of those who follow him. Is aware of those tough decisions you make to follow him, and is willing to reward them. You cannot out give our generous God.
With that said, He pulled the trigger. Elected to make a decision to better his first point of ministry and left the band. Without a shadow of a doubt he lived up to the Corinthian call to “Love his Wife, as Jesus Loved the Church”. It is a remarkable decision by a man who is willing to be a Godly example. Love is Jesus, who is willing to die, so that we might have life. I think his decision reflects some of that love. His willingness to end this career so that his marriage could blossom is a testament to a faithful man!
Godly husbands have tough decisions to make. If our wife is our first call of ministry, then NOTHING ranks above her. Work, Career, Money, Safety, Security. When we do what is in our own best interests, we miss the mark. When the decision reflects our love for our partner, we honor God.
As the band stands on the precipice of greatness, I love his decision to make family the priority. In the same breath, I could write another article (and I probably will) expressing the love and sacrifice the band (and their wives) have made to bring honor to Jesus.
It serves as an example to me, that there might come a day when I have to make the tough decision and sacrifice what I hold of great importance, for the sake of my marriage. Boldly making that decision without FEAR or REGRET brings honor to God. Thanks buddy for your boldness, it is an encouragement to me!
Be Bold, Be a Leader, and make the tough decision that honor God.
